Going from strength to strength, it was great news to hear that Garry Stewart (seen here at the presentation ceremony) has now won the Inventor of the Year Award, run by Business Insider and RBS. Everything in life takes commitment and perseverance, along with some luck of course, and it is a great learning experience to follow and support Garry as he travels this path to increasing success.
Adrian Hocking, one of the directors at Albright IP, has been working with Garry for a number of years on two different projects. The first of these is a high-tech device for reducing heating bills, called the Chop-Cloc. Garry founded The Chopping Company and this has now taken off more than ever with the interest in Smart Meters and Controllers, such as Nest and Hive. Garry has submitted a number of patents in various territories worldwide to protect the Chop-Cloc technology, along with trade marks to protect the brand.
Garry’s second idea then came about when he decided to improve the common household toilet brush, inventing the LooBlade. Again, we submitted patent protection to deter competitors, protected the brand name, and registered the final look of the product using registered designs. Albright’s unique in-house product design company, Duku also assisted Garry with the development of the design. A nice one-stop shop for clients to prototype and test their initial ideas.
With the LooBlade, Garry setup a second company, Spyglass Innovations, and undertook a great Kickstarter campaign to assist with his funding of the tooling. This campaign was a big success, exceeding his funding goal by around 3 times! There are always trials and tribulations with designing and launching any new product, but he has done fantastically well, moving the manufacturing from China to Germany to improve quality, and also organising a Europe-wide distribution deal.
So, well done Garry for your latest accolade, and keep up with the good work!
