It is great to see so many businesses registered for the upcoming Gloucestershire Business Show 2016. Gloucestershire has long been an innovative county and it’s good to see there is an Innovation and Technology Hub at the Show.
“Did you know that the inventor of the lawn mower lived in Stroud?”
Edwin Beard Budding invented the lawn mower in 1830, patented the idea and granted a licence to Ransomes of Ipswich in 1832. By 1840, over 1000 lawnmowers had been sold. How little business has changed in the last 175 years! Budding also invented the adjustable wrench in 1842. He really was a great inventor.
Perhaps the best known innovation to emanate from Gloucestershire is the jet aircraft. The race was on with Germany to develop the first jet fighter and the Gloster Aircraft Company Ltd was engaged to build an aircraft suitable for being powered by Frank Whittle’s jet engine. The first flight was on 15 May 1941.
The developments of our age may not seem so exciting at first glance, but if you spare a thought for the comfort of jet travel today, you soon begin to realise how much has and is being achieved. Keeping with a theme, not 5 miles from our offices we have Dowty Propellers, specialists in composite propellers and Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (Safran) world leaders in landing gear systems and carbon brakes for aircraft.
Today we have many innovative companies in Gloucestershire across a broad range of sectors.
We are delighted that Attorneys from Albright IP will be attending the show on both days. We act for some fantastic companies in Gloucestershire including the Queen’s award winners Adey Heating Solutions producing innovative filter technology for heating systems and Tomcat SNI producing innovative solutions in cycling for special needs children and adults.
Please just contact the office to arrange a confidential discussion regarding any Patent, Trademark or Design issues that you may have and we can meet up at our new offices at the top of Bayshill Road. Alternatively, we can have a chat over a Costa at the show!
See you all at the Gloucestershire Business Show 2016.
